Sleepy Baby

You booked a newborn session,
now what?

I wanted to take a minute to share  my "why" and my photography style with you before we work together. I have a few guidelines for our session which I will list below. I also have a quick questionnaire that I ask that you fill out before our session. Taking a few minutes to go through these steps, will help ensure that we have a wonderful session.

I thank you for taking the time out of your day to do this.

Our Session Guidelines

  • If your child(ren) tend to be extra shy, prepare them for our shoot ahead of time. Tell them we are going to take pictures with Mommy's or Daddy's friend. Show them my picture on my website, so they aren't completely thrown off when put in front of my camera. The more prepared and "in the know" they feel, the easier it will be to get them to warm up to me.

  • Get them happy before our session. Make sure the kids are fed a snack right before and have rested. Perhaps have them think of fun photo ideas to get them excited and involved.

  • You are off "parent duty" during our session. I know that often, as parents, our immediate desire is to make sure our kids are smiling and posing how we want them to. This can make for very flat pictures with fake smiles, or worse cranky kids who just want to be done. If your kids are smiling in my photos, it's because they are wanting to. We will be super silly and have lots of fun, but I ask that for our time together you resist the urge to take control if they are acting "out of hand." I have years of experience in working with kids in these sessions and have many tried and true techniques for shifting the mood and getting the desired results. You are all along for the experience, lets just have fun and enjoy it. Remember that when mom and dad start getting annoyed, their energy will quickly mimic yours.

  • Don't be afraid to let loose! A lot of times a very silly mom or dad in the background can bring out the silly fun nature of our kids. Let get some photos with real joy in them.
